Desktop Backgrounds

The resolution- the size of the desktop backgrounds should fit the entire screen effectively, otherwise, there will be empty spaces and that could mean that you have a lot of white or black space in your computer screen. In some cases, it might work, particularly if your artwork has a white background but for the most part, it would be ideal to have a resolution that is made especially for the screen.

Desktop functionality- how do you use your computer home screen? Do you keep tons of files in your desktop that you always tend to cover the whole space? Do you like to keep the screen very clean with little to no icons at all except maybe for the recycle bin and other standard files? How you use your desktop can determine the kind of desktop backgrounds that you use. Some people prefer to keep the left side bare to accommodate files while others prefer to keep the design in the center since they like the icons to be segregated across the sides. Consider these things when creating your one desktop background.

Color- color always is determined by your specific taste for colors or design. It is very important to have a color that you are most comfortable using. Since you are creating the desktop backgrounds, you want to make sure that it is as appealing for you as possible. Some people prefer bright colors but some find them too painful to the eyes.
